I always knew there were benefits to switching to a gaming PC. I had a couple of friends who decided to after playing on a console for years and wondered if I should do the same.
To make this article as helpful as possible, I actually interviewed a few of my avid gamer friends and surveyed the Gaming PC Facebook community to find out why people decided to make the switch.
But is it worth buying a gaming PC? A gaming PC is extremely worth buying because it runs better graphics, has more variety of games, and offers the same features as a regular computer but with superior performance. A gaming PC is actually cheaper in the long run because you can upgrade parts.
Now, if you’re not convinced because you think I’m a random blogger, I interviewed some of my extremely avid gamer friends who game even more seriously than I do. I even created two separate polls in the Gaming PC Facebook Page that I recently joined.
Here’s what my avid gamer friends said when I asked them why they prefer gaming PC’s:
Edward (roommate):
“I’ve been gaming on a PC since I was old enough to work and save up for parts. I play Rocket League competitively and need a computer that runs E-Sports really fast. Consoles don’t provide that type of performance, even the PS5.“
Nikhil
“I first tried to run Arma III on my Surface Book and it couldn’t handle the resolution even on the lowest setting. I saw how fun this game was and knew it was time to switch to a gaming PC. I built my $1000 gaming pc for better graphics and performance. I also knew there would be unique games on PC that you just couldn’t get on consoles.“
Wyatt
“I built a gaming PC because there’s a ton of great games that aren’t available on the console. I own both console types but use my gaming pc on my tv for a lot of indie titles like Inside, Kerbal Space Program, Garry’s Mod, and other classics.“
Cooper (other roommate)
” I got an Asus Gaming laptop not specifically for gaming. I’m an architect student and I need a high end laptop for graphic design for my college projects. Gaming is a great perk of this laptop because it runs Apex legends super well bro.“
Julian (brother)
” I don’t have a gaming PC but I play on my friends’ when we hangout. Battle Royale games like Cold War are always better because of the graphics. I’m saving right now to build one for $1000 so I can get away from PS4 lag and low resolution gameplay.“
I asked our Facebook group what people’s biggest reason was for switching to a gaming PC. Here’s what everyone said:
How Much Should I Spend on a Gaming PC?
You should spend minimum of $1000. Console systems cost around $400, which means buying a $600-$800 PC will not be noticeably better.
If you decide to go any cheaper, you’ll only be able to afford hardware that amounts to the same capabilities as a PlayStation or XBOX console.
I built my PC using an entry level graphics card, power supply, and processor, which cost me around $1200 after shipping. The performance on my PC far outmatches any modern console, including the PS5.
What are some examples of good beginner gaming PC’s?
I compiled a list of the following builds. These were the exact same one’s that I referenced to build my gaming PC in 2019.
Remember, an entry level gaming PC build is still better than a Console in terms of performance!
This entry level Gaming PC build will run you under $900.

It has a bunch of helpful tips, lessons learned, and even some myth busting about first time builds! It’s pretty much all the information I wish I knew when I was looking for parts and building my own gaming PC.
Why aren’t consoles as good as gaming PC’s?
They’re designed to be more affordable than a gaming PC. A lot of people want gaming to be more affordable and easier to run than a gaming PC.
This means console companies like Sony and Microsoft try to create systems that provide decent graphics and give the player average performance and some people are okay with that.
