How Long a Razer Deathadder Lasts: Mouse Lifetime Explained

Introduction

My brother and I used to use the Razer Deathadder Mouse on my gaming PC and on my PS4. Right now, he’s the one who still uses it and we’ve had it for several years now. We weren’t sure how long it would last since this was our first dedicated gaming mouse, so I did some research.

Like many people say on the web, the rubber grips on this product tend to come off first, followed by some cases with the mouse double clicking (but not for everyone).

I did a ton of original research in this article so you don’t have to sift through the multitude of information that’s on the web. That combined with my personal experience with this product, and you’ll be left with the ultimate resource on how long this mouse will last you.

So how long does the Razer Deathadder gaming mouse last?

The Razer Death Adder mouse lasts 8-10 years with an average 5 hours use per day (if well maintained). Double clicking begins to occur around the five year mark, but can be fixed with a $5 button change. The rubber side grips may wear off as early as 2-3 years, but they can also be replaced.

In the rest of this article, we’ll cover the following things:

  • Deathadder mouse durability explained (and components)
  • Other ways to increase mouse durability
  • Related questions compared to other, similar products

Razer DeathAdder Durability Explained

I decided to give Razer’s tech team a call while writing this article. I called them at 1-855-872-5233 and spoke to Louis, an expert in the Gaming Peripheral Tech Department and here’s what he had to say:

“Razer Death Adders can last people up to a decade if they use a mouse pad, clean out the dust often, and replace the rubber grips when they wear off. Even the button wheel can be replaced for under $10 if needed” –Louis, Gaming Peripheral Expert at Razer

As our conversation went on, he explained to me the different components, and how long each of them last before they need to be replaced.

Life Expectancy of the Razer Death Adder Components:

Gaming Mouse Component Durability Issues that Arise
Button Wheel (replaceable) 5 Years inconsistent scrolling
DPI / Polling Sensors 8 Years mouse screen jumping
Left/Right Click Buttons 5 Years double clicking
Rubber Side Grips (replaceable) 2 Years Adhesives wear off

Button wheel: the button wheel is completely replaceable on this product. This is a great feature because mice like the Logitech G5 and the Razer Naga don’t always offer full replacements of certain parts.

DPI / Polling Sensors: These aren’t worth replacing according the Louis. This is because they last the longest, so it’s better to just buy a new mouse altogether. They also don’t take mail-ins for repairs unless its within the 2 year warranty (according to Louis).

Left/ Right Click Buttons: The biggest reason these don’t last longer than five years is because people often mistreat the mouse by improper storage when traveling or rage slam the buttons during intense online multiplayer. The issue of double clicking is self-induced and doesn’t naturally happen with proper care.

Rubber Slide Grips: These wear out the most according to the gaming reddit community and to Louis. Razer actually has an easy way to order replacement grips on amazon. From my personal experience, this is one of the weaknesses of the Death Adder because of how quickly the adhesives wear off, even after you take good care of it for years. Sweat and food grease makes it come off the fastest.

Important Note: of all the research I did, the death adder compared to the Logitech G5 or the HyperX brands is way more forgiving when it comes to replacing the parts listed in the table. I appreciate how razer built this mouse for durability considerations.

Easy Ways to Increase Gaming Mouse Durability

Use a mouse pad: this is the biggest way to ensure your mouse will always provide you accurate tracking and remain scratch free. The bottom surface is the most sensitive part of the mouse and wear and tear decreases the sensors sensitivity to track the mouse.

When traveling, transport your mouse in a ballistic case or soft cloth: ballistic cases prevent the buttons from being over-compressed from the weight of a backpack or other loose items.
