The 5 Best Gaming Headsets for Gamers with Glasses

Introduction

If you’re new to this site then welcome! This blog is all about helping you create the ultimate home theater, gaming room, and a man cave set up. Today we’re talking about a topic that pertains to a large number of gamers. Wearing glasses while gaming is not the most comfortable thing if you have a headset that is always crushing your temples. As a gamer wearing glasses myself, I found that there are a lot of headphones and headset that did not give me an enjoyable experience. I created this article to be a good resource to help you find a headset or headphone pair that will be comfortable for any type of glasses that you have.

Most gaming headsets push too hard on your head and make them uncomfortable for a long period of time. But then there is the other side of the spectrum, where the headsets fit so loose that the sound quality leaks through the headset.

By the end of this article, you’ll have a good grasp of what to look for and comfortable gaming headsets if you were glasses. I’ll also point out some specific products you can use that are highly recommended and or based on my personal experience.

Before we begin, I’m going to spoil the premise for this entire article.

Comfortability and breathability are the most important factors your gaming headset should have if you want the most enjoyable gaming experience especially if you were glasses.

What Makes Headsets Good for Glasses Wearers?

There are a couple important factors that go into making a comfortable gaming headset for glasses wearers.

  1. Open back design makes the headset more comfortable and accommodating to the frames you’re wearing. You should be able to comfortably wear headphones with an open back design for a couple of hours without feeling any type of discomfort. If you get a headache or wearing the headsets with glasses becomes unbearable, then you know that those aren’t the right product for you.
    .
  2. When you put on your headphones, they shouldn’t press too tightly against your head. You may not feel the discomfort at first, but this will slowly have a crippling effect over many hours.
    .
  3. Memory foam and a type of airy film are the best materials for comfortability. It’s hard to go into a store and try on a pair of headsets with your glasses for hours on end to be able to anticipate this problem. That’s why good reviews from genuine glasses wearers are going to be really important on your search for the right product. Reddit forum pages tended to be the best source of genuine reviews from people asking the same question. I included those products in the section below.

Quick reminder: Anytime you look at a product review section, make sure people with glasses are the ones who are commenting on comfortability and not users without.

Throughout my research, I came across the following products. I made sure that before I found these I either had some personal experience with it or the people leaving good reviews talked about comfortability and they were glasses wearers. One strategy I used to find the right set of headphones was to order them online with no expectation to keep them. You can always return these products and they ship in small packages which make it pretty hassle free. I even did this method with a home theater projector until I found the one that I wanted.

HyperX Cloud II Series

The hyper X cloud series literally came up in more posts than they did not. Anytime someone had a question about what the most comfortable headset was, this brand was mentioned. People also credit Hyper X to having way better quality headsets than other cheap brands. I also think they’re appropriately priced for what they provide. Below is a snippet from another user that pretty well sums up what I’m talking about.

Alpha1: Highest Rated Comfort

From Reddit user:

These types of reviews came up in other forum pages on Reddit and Quora. People are super helpful with their responses there and it’s obvious they’re genuine headphone owners.

The Alpha 1 and the FlightX both have award winning comfort. This has allowed HyperX to have a really good reputation amongst the gaming community. If you ever watch pro gaming tournaments, a lot of these guys use a HyperX series.

These headphones also won’t break the bank because they’re well under $100. I’ve mentioned before that there are a lot of knock off brands within this price range so it’s hard to determine which ones are good. Luckily, HyperX is a legit brand that has varying price ranges. I would be skeptical of other knock off headsets that weren’t from reputable brands.

I prefer to use gaming headphones instead of headsets, but these actually deliver great sound quality. These headphones are definitely the biggest bang for the buck as well.

FlightX

Comfortability is one of the main takeaways with this one as well. It’s nice that a company really puts effort into this feature instead of skimping out and investing in mic quality or something less impactful. The comfort these headsets provide allows you to actually game for hours on end without any interruptions.

The soft padding will be easier on the frames of your glasses and won’t press against your head. There’s a lot of good reviews that talk about this aspect which is why it made the list.

Cloud Flight is a small jump in the price range from the ones mentioned above. The FlightX is a wireless series so you don’t have to deal with more cords. I put this one in here because it uses the same comfortable material as the Alpha 1. HyperX is well known for having a comfortable memory foam with all of their products.

You’ll enjoy the amount of bass they provide. They have 50mm drivers which give you enhanced bass reproduction (this helps them further emphasize low tones).

Razer Kraken V2 Best Value

This headset is super lightweight. I used to have a crappy pair of headsets that were bulky and heavy. That combined with my glasses became super uncomfortable after a couple of hours. As mentioned before, the lightweight design is good because they will feel less bulky on your head. Your face won’t feel fatigued after long hours. The headband is made from a bauxite aluminum material if you were wondering.

There’s a couple of things about this headset that makes them especially comfortable for glasses wearers.

You might be wondering about the durability of a more lightweight headset. They’re made from that aluminum material which can give question to their durability. If you’ve done any research about the durability of headsets, you might wonder why people’s gaming headsets keep breaking. I wrote an article on that which you can check out in the link. Just know that not all brands make durable headphones but Razer and HyperX are at the top of durability and quality. From all the research I did this is what lead me to this conclusion.

You can literally find reviews under this product where people switched to Razer Kraken after wearing Turtle Beaches that broke on them after a couple of months. The brand that creates headsets is actually important.

Logitech G35

The design of these ones surprised me a little when I looked up this headset type after seeing reviews on it. I was incorrect when I first thought they wouldn’t be comfortable. I personally don’t use programmable g-keys. These features can be super helpful for someone who finds them important and games with friends online more often than not. I play a lot of open world and single-player games so I wouldn’t be able to get much use out of those features.

Everyone who wears glasses enjoyed the comfortability of these ones. The price of these are similar to the headphones I use now. I wouldn’t spend any more than the price of the Logitech G35s. After $300 you get into a world of diminishing returns. You can be sure that you’re getting the highest quality headsets money can buy for gaming.

I would say this one has the best quality microphone out of all the ones mentioned. The mic is more sensitive than other ones. You might have to turn down the sensitivity because they will pick up even the smallest sounds with your set up.

These ones come with some comfort customization options. They come with a couple different sizes for the headband. They have varying levels of cushion as well. After a two hour gaming session, you won’t feel any kind of discomfort.

Alternate Option For PS4 Sony PS Vita: Most Affordable

I know there is a lot of stigma about Sony and Microsoft headsets for a lot of reasons. Some people heavily critique the game audio quality they deliver. If you’re hardpressed on getting a headset because you game with a lot of friends and don’t care much for game audio, AND you don’t want over ear headphones because you can’t find one that works, then consider the Sony PS Vita for PS4.

These aren’t too expensive and will work really well with your console. Sound quality is actually good with these on PS4. People even use these for personal use, not just for video games.

I don’t recommend the Xbox Turtle Beach because they literally have horrible durability.

My brother and I used to have them and they broke after a year. They only provided good mic quality but game audio was horrible. I’m glad Sony actually made a dedicated pair for PS4 that has good mic and game audio. With most earbuds, be aware that you’re not going to experience good bass compared to headphones.

Other Alternative Solutions

Here are some quick other tips that are worth noting. These are just a quick list of alternative solutions that you may not have thought of previously.

You could consider avoiding headsets entirely.

Depending on what type of game are you are, earbuds might be a good option. There are some really comfortable ear buds that can be used for gaming. I’m not talking about just regular Apple headphones. Skullcandy makes some good ones as well as some other  companies. Again, this would depend on whether or not you need a microphone when gaming.

Some earbud mics don’t work well with console controllers such as the PS4. My friends would always complain that the mic on my earbuds would have too much static when I was gaming with them on PS4. I haven’t used any Xbox one controllers or Nintendo switches, so I’m not sure if those would have the same issue.

Don’t confuse the terminology of headsets and headphones to be the same.

Headphones are infinitely superior in the sound quality and comfortability that they deliver most of the time. Headphones are built with the considerations of the studio listeners and people who will have these on for long periods of time, doing various activities. Headsets are often cheap, all in one solution for gamers and they have low durability.

There’s also a lot of knock off brands that appear to be good but are actually just overpriced. I personally like headphones better because they give me better sound quality and they are more durable. They also have perfectly good microphones that have worked perfectly well for my game experiences. I haven’t felt the need to get an all in one gaming headset because of this. I use the Sennheiser momentum‘s if you’re curious.

If your glasses will let you try putting them over the top of the ear pads.

I know some people have smaller glasses and that doing this will potentially break them. The solution might work if your ear pads or extra small or if you have big frames. This is just something a lot of people were commenting on in forum sections.

This is a completely personal preference, but there were also a lot of glasses wearers that preached about how awesome it was to switch to contacts. This had a dramatic positive affect and making their gaming experience is better. It is a more extreme measure if you’re doing this just for gaming, but it might be something that you haven’t considered as a viable option.

Conclusion

Hopefully, by the end of this article you can see there are some really good products for gamers with glasses. It’s easy to get annoyed by trying countless products that don’t work well for your situation. Luckily, there are a number of good products on the market that can work for gamers with glasses. As a glasses wearer, I’ve tried a lot of headsets that didn’t work for me at all. My goal from this article was to save you guys all the annoying trial and error testing with headsets so you can more quickly find one that works for you.
